3.0 PROPOSAL

3.1 Process Work

All discussions and progress were documented in our FigJam Board.

[Empathy Stage]

Targeted User Groups

First, we decided on our targeted user groups based on the brief given to us. Initially, our targeted user groups were offline B40 women business owners and online B40 women business owners. After consulting, we changed them to:
  • B40 Women Product Sellers
  • B40 Women Service Providers

Interview & Transcript

After sorting our targeted user groups, we prepared a list of interview questions for our interviewees to answer. Our group interviewed a total of 6 interviewees, 3 interviewees per targeted user group.

We interviewed them during their IbuNiaga ImpactLab briefing session on campus. My interviewee
runs a homemade paste business, so she belongs to our 1st targeted user group, B40 Women Product Sellers.

After the interview, we transcribed our audio recordings and highlighted all the key information that will be useful for our affinity diagram.

Affinity Diagram

After we are done highlighting the key information, we transfer them into individual sticky notes and sort them into different clusters. After labelling each cluster, we can start to see their pain points and what they need to improve their business growth.

Problem Statement & How Might We (HMW)

In Week 4, we did an exercise in class where each group member create a problem statement and a "How Might We" (HMW) question for each of our interviewee. This exercise helps us to create an overall problem statement and a HMW question for both our user personas.

[Ideate Stage]

Crazy 8 Brainstorming

In Week 6, we did a brainstorming exercise called Crazy 8, where we sketch the solutions that comes to mind in under 8 minutes. After the exercise, our group compiled all our solutions and identified any similar or overlapping ideas. Our shortlisted solutions include:
  • Business hunting app
  • Marketplace
  • Digital skills training workshop

4.0 PROTOTYPE

4.1 Process Work

[Prototype Stage]

After proposing our solutions, we decided to go with the Business Hunting App. To promote the app, we also decided to produce a promotional video to introduce its features.

User Flow

We created 2 user flows for the merchant and client's interface view respectively, but our prototype will only be focusing on the merchant's interface.
  • Merchant

  • Client

Information Architecture

After creating the user flows, we sorted which pages we want to include and its features, then categorised them in an information architecture diagram.

[Testing Stage]

Tasks:
  1. Choose the house cleaning job that's nearest to you with the best rate and confirm you'll take it. List down the cost and how you will earn from it.
  2. Browse through your previous jobs and find one that didn't go through. Find out why the client called it off.
  3. List out the types of cleaning services you're able to offer to the clients.
Metrics:
  • Task success rate (%) - Users who complete each task unassisted vs with guidance
  • How long each task takes from start to completion
  • Number of wrong taps or backtracks before completing the task

5.0 FINAL SUBMISSION

Minor Project Task 3: Final Presentation by Group 9

6.0 REFLECTION

This project helped me understand the challenges that B40 women entrepreneurs face when trying to run a business, particularly micro-business owners. After the interview session, I got to know that they are actually not that tech-savvy in using digital tools, and lack knowledge on how to do marketing to promote their products or services. Throughout the research process, I learnt to always put myself in their shoes and try to look at things from their perspective instead of relying on my own assumptions about their experience. By doing so, we were able to pinpoint what they really need to expand their business.

While working as a team, me and my teammates supported each other and regularly held meetings to keep track of progress and refine our content. Throughout the process, it taught me how important collaboration and communication is between teammates to maximise efficiency and produce great results. Overall, this project allowed me to gain insights on how the workflow of a design project looks like from the start until the end. It also taught me how thoughtful design decisions can increase visibility and confidence for the growth of micro-business owners.
