WEEK 6: Poster Design
- Principles of Poster Design
1. Emphasis
Directs attention to a specific element, making it stand out and creating a visual focal point. It can be achieved through size, colour, placement, or other visual cues.
2. Balance and alignment
Symmetrical balance creates a formal, structured feel, while asymmetrical balance uses varying elements and placement to achieve a sense of equilibrium.
3. Contrast
Contrast creates space and difference between elements in your design. Your background needs to be significantly different from the colour of your elements so they work harmoniously together and are readable.
4. Repetition
Involves repeating elements like colours, shapes, or fonts to create a sense of unity, rhythm, and consistency.
E.g. If only one thing on your band poster is in blue italic sans-serif, it can read like an error. If three things are in blue italic sans-serif, you’ve created a motif and are back in control of your design.

5. Proportion
Proportion is the visual size and weight of elements in a composition and how they relate to each other. It often helps to approach your design in sections, instead of as a whole.
6. Movement
Movement is controlling the elements in a composition so that the eye is led to move from one to the next and the information is properly communicated to your audience.
Movement creates the story or the narrative of your work. It can be achieved through line direction, visual cues, and the arrangement of elements.
7. White Space
White space (or negative space) is he empty page around the elements in your composition. It provides breathing room, improves readability, and can enhance the overall visual impact.

Title: PULSE
Summary of design concept:
The concept explores humanity's spiritual return through reconnection with nature's universal "pulse" - the fundamental rhythm connecting our heartbeat to cosmic cycles. Drawing inspiration from Michelangelo's "The Creation of Adam," it reimagines the classical creation narrative as humanity's conscious reconnection with the universal life force that flows through all existence, outside of religious context. The flora and fauna serve as messengers of nature's wisdom, representing the diverse life forms surrounding us. This moment reflects the transformative potential of reaching, recognising, and contemplating our place within this greater web of life.

4.0 REFLECTION
The lecture on the principles of poster design is an effective guide to use for the poster design task. By keeping the design principles in mind, it helps us to design a poster with good composition, contrast and harmony. I hope to convey my thoughts about the renewal of life theme and develop a meaningful design concept through this poster.
