3.0 REFLECTION
Experience
Looking back on this semester, I've achieved all the learning goals I set out to accomplish. Through Task 1, I developed my skills in expressing ideas through text, while also learning how to format text for clear communication. Task 2 taught me how to work with grids, layouts, and page flow, helping me understand what makes typography effective and memorable with good reading rhythm. Task 3 allowed me to put these concepts into practice by designing my own legible typeface, using research and analysis to ensure it had consistent visual characteristics and good readability. I'm really grateful that I was able to experience and learn from all these different aspects of design, giving me a comprehensive grasp of typography and visual communication.
Observations
Comparing all my tasks, I observed a significant improvement in my work across multiple areas. I saw myself slowly getting more confident and bold in my design choices, more open to try new ideas and experiment with different layouts and styles. I was also impressed by seeing how my fellow classmates approach the same tasks through different creative strategies. This exposure broadened my understanding and made me recognise the value of the unique perspectives that everyone brings to their work.
Findings
Typography exists everywhere and can appear in so many different design forms. Thanks to this module, I've understood typography serves a more crucial function than most people realise, as its importance is frequently overlooked in our daily lives. Because of this module, I now find myself recognising typefaces (using comic sans is a red flag) and nitpicking the orphans or widows in text paragraphs shown at random places. I am looking forward for my progress in Advanced Typography and curious on how I can push my limits further.
